Shelby was the Director of Theatre at Patrick Henry Middle School from 2017-2023. She taught workshops across southeast Michigan for students elementary age to adult at Ann Arbor Civic Theatre, Engage at Eastern Michigan University, Theatre Nova/Ann Arbor Rec and Ed, the City of Farmington Hills, and the Woodhaven Recreation Department.

  • Produced and directed 12 productions with the mission to engage, enlighten, and empower students through theatrical production. 

  • Taught students the play production process, both technical and on stage, in order to produce a student-led production.  Encouraged and mentored student leadership.

  • Supervised all finances and fundraising, raised our budget over 300%. 

  • Staffed and managed Technical and Music Director on a show-to-show basis.

  • Coordinated with administration to approve material, schedules, rehearsal and performance spaces, finances, and educational objectives. Often managed the program across three schools in the district. 

  • Developed a robust program by recruiting over 250 students, with many returning for up to  4 productions. 

  • Set students up for success at the state-championship winning high school theatre program.

Total Drama Stars Camp- City of Farmington Hills (2022)

  • One of our most popular theatre camps, participants will work as a group to write, direct, and act in their own play. This non-musical, fun-filled theatre camp focuses on story and character development plus line memorization, expression, physical acting and improvisation. There will be a performance on the final day of camp.

Playmakers Theatre Camp- Ann Arbor Public Schools/Theatre Nova (2020, 2021, 2022)

  • Have you ever wanted to write and produce your own play? That’s what we will do over the course of this very popular camp! We will write, rehearse, design, and perform a play. In the process, we will learn about movement, improvisation, voice and diction; along with a healthy dose of design, drawing and crafting. Learn how to be a real-life stagehand by helping out with props, costumes, or lights. Gain self-confidence and develop your teamwork skills in this high energy, FUN camp.
