Directing Tragedy Sound at Theatre NOVA

I’m really excited to share that I’ll be directing Karen Saari’s play "Tragedy Sound" at Theatre Nova in 2027.

I first worked on this piece in 2024, when I directed a development workshop at the Flint Rep. It’s rare to get to come back to a play a few years later and take it from a workshop into a full production, and I’m grateful for the chance to do that, especially with a piece of theatre that I connect with so deeply.

The play follows three brave women who take a dare out of necessity and end up on a dangerous adventure on Lake Superior. A taught, woman-vs-nature thriller. When three young women brave stormy Lake Superior in a canoe to win a bet, they're forced to confront the choices they've made... and sing the songs they wrote together in sixth grade.

It is, in other words, very much the kind of ferally-feminine theatre I want to make.

I’m excited to get back in the room with this piece and start building the full production. More details coming soon.
